Nobody knows who originally created the very first chocolate covered coffee bean confection but Dana Davenport, creator of Dilettante's chocolate confections, was one of the pioneers of this craft. Experimenting with panned confections in Dana's shop in Seattle's famous capital hill neighborhood, during the 1970's, Dana created many unique candy sensations. Dana's family had originally brought this candy making method to the Pacific Northwest many years ago introducing the dragee method of confections to the west coast.
Dilettante uses the same method today, taking premium roasted espresso beans (we roast our own), and generously coating the beans in two types of rich gourmet chocolate. At Dilettante, we coat our coffee beans twice using premium chocolate blends of dark, milk and white chocolate. Using the dragee (pronounced draw-jay) method of candy coating, dragee pans are special revolving kettles used to coat the premium roasted espresso in Dilettante's gourmet chocolate blends. Revolving pans coat the chocolate confections perfectly, resulting in a beautiful chocolate covered bean for a magical mocha inspired treat.
